Leading UK electronic data provider on land and property information hits nine million mark

21.09.06

With the housing market remaining buoyant and electronic property searches proving ever more popular, the Council for National Land Information Service (C-NLIS), which through NLIS offers electronic property searches, announced this week that NLIS has completed its nine millionth search since its inception in 2001.

NLIS is the leader in the provision of electronic property searches from Local Authorities, and is helping to streamline the home-buying process. Instead of submitting numerous and separate search requests in writing, a process which can be labour intensive and time consuming, conveyancers can purchase searches online from an NLIS channel. Searches can be completed and returned in a matter of minutes.

Search products available include information from 410 local authorities, HM Land Registry and the Coal Authority. Information gathered by C-NLIS suggests that around three quarters of conveyancing law firms have used NLIS at some point.

Jan Boothroyd, Deputy Chief Executive of C-NLIS comments: "It is encouraging to see that online searches are being embraced by a growing number of conveyancing professionals across the UK. The move to electronic information will ensure the home-buying process is streamlined and is critical to the success of the Home Information Packs (HIPs). With the uptake of NLIS searches increasing faster than ever before, we expect to reach ten million searches by the end of the year. We have also witnessed a significant increase in the pace of modernisation within Local Authorities, whose collaboration is so vital to the success of NLIS.
